Terrible Teeth

After months of my twins teething and screaming they are finally getting teeth. They are 10 months old so a little late compared to singletons but that's alright.

Food/Sleep Hack!

Hey everyone! I'm going to give you some pointers that have really helped me a lot when it has came to introducing solids to my girls and helping them sleep longer through the night. I have seen a lot of moms not introducing there twins to solids till about 8 to 9 months of age because they do not seem interested or they do not know how to use the spoon yet. Have no fear!

When introducing solids your babies may not like the the cereal (mine constantly gagged when I would try to give it to them) so try something else. I tried something sweet my first time like a fruit, (I used bananas) then use a syringe (like you would use for medication) fill it all the way up and slowly squirt it into there mouth. I usually put about 0.5 ml in there mouth at a time. I did this for about two months, during this time they were able to learn mechanically how to get them food to the back of there mouth without the irritation of having to figure out the spoon. This REALLY helped with introducing foods and they really loved the variety of foods they were able to try. At about 4 months they did there sleep regression and wanted to completely change the sleep routine that I had going for them so I will share with you my new schedule (I use schedule lightly because lets be honest babies have there own schedule lol) has been that has helped them sleep between 6 to 8 hours.

Let's start with bedtime. Bedtime for my girls starts at between 7:30pm to 8:00pm. This is when we start bath time, get changed into night time diapers and put on new pj's for the night. Then after all that is done we feed them a solid (don't be afraid to experiment moms and dads, there is no manual for children and you know you child best. I am currently using Gerber stage 2 foods and they just turned 6 months. They like these better because of the mixture of foods in them. There current favorites are Vanilla Custard Pudding with Bananas and Apple Berry with Mixed Cereal. They eat about 2 ozs each of solid food) after feeding them the solid we top it off with a bottle ( I usually give them about 2 ozs and then if they want more I give them about 2 ozs more). Then I lay them down and put there binki's in and have white noise going on in the background.  Sometimes they go right to sleep sometimes they don't. Sometimes my husband and I have to pat there butts for a little while to get them to go to sleep. It is usually about 9pm to 9:30pm after all of this. If you are wanting an earlier bedtime you can always do that also. They usually switch off on who wakes up first but one will always wake up at about 2am or 3am and the other will wake up about two hours after that just wanting a little bit more food. This sometimes changes depending on how much food they eat throughout the day, this is very important, always make sure they get enough to eat through out the day. Breakfast is usually at about 9am or 9:30am, I feed them a solid again just like I do at bedtime and then finish off with a bottle. Then I feed them bottles through out the day usually every 3 to 4 hours. I hear a lot of parents say 'keep the baby up all day long' I let them take about 2 to 3 naps throughout the day (they usually only sleep for about an hour anyways) and then give them plenty of play time with mommy and daddy, toys or there education show on Roku. This is just my feeding and sleep schedule.

Remember every child is different. What may work for one child may not work for another so feel free to play around and modify to make your own schedule.

Crib Hack!

Hey everyone! I know there are some twin mommies out there that have know clue what they are going to do when there twins get to big for the crib but still want the to sleep together. Well I will share with you what my husband and I did so that our girls could sleep together still and have lots of room for the coming months of growth. The crib shown below is a Dream on Me 2-in-1 Full-Size Crib and Changing Table combo from Walmart. They have a variety of finishes and we absolutely love the extra storage we can get from it. It's a good crib for the price and let's be honest when it comes to needing two of EVERYTHING cutting costs is part of the process. Now within the two cribs we have two crib mattresses with a large pool noodle going down the middle, now you can add a blanket on top of the pool noodle if you have any extra space but we did pretty well with just the pool noodle. Now the sheet is a fitted full size sheet, there is a little extra sheet because of this but we just pulled it on the edges so it would be a smooth fit on top. Now with this set up we can choose to have two changing tables if we would like but at the moment we are just using one side for wipes, diapers, powders, ext... Also we can put things under the bed also to get it out of the way. It's crazy to see how they were able to fit in one crib just fine and now they can't. Love this idea and I hope you can use it also!

Donating & Selling Breastmilk

Hello everyone! I know there are some mother's out there that have a lot of breast milk out there and do not know what to do with it. I had so much breast milk my parents freezer and my own were completely full. I had no where else to put my milk. As many mothers know this is Liquid Gold!! You cannot waste this stuff. So for those mothers out there that are producing so much and have no where to store it I have a great solution for you! Donate or Sell it!! There is a huge demand out there for this liquid gold. There are many hospitals and Facebook groups that will gladly take donated breast milk. There is also such a demand out there that you can even sell it online! Believe it or not there are a lot of male body builders out there that will buy your milk for a large sum of money.

At onlythebreast you are able to buy, sell and donate your milk. If you are buying breast milk they have amazing tips for you to make sure you are getting the best for your baby. The seller shows the location they are selling there milk and if they are willing the ship the milk for you. If you are selling they have a step-by-step way to ship the milk if you would like to ship your milk.

At Prolacta they have lots of places that you can donate your milk. Most of the places make you fill out an application to get background information to make sure you are healthy and that they are getting the best breast milk to give to other mothers in need.

With Facebook you can type in donate breast milk and find communities that you can donate your breast milk to.

Breast milk has a lot of benefits for our babies and if you are able to help others by giving away breast milk that you do not have the room to store or even breast milk that is about to expire, what better way than helping other babies get nutrition!

Great books for a new twin mom!

Hey everyone! Here are some book recommendations that I have read that have really helped me out and I hope they can help you out too!

  1. Your Baby's First Year - this book has been really helpful. Has answered a lot of questions for a first time mom.  Link to book
  2. Twins Pregnancy, Birth, and the First year of Life - Has charts, diagrams and pictures if you really like the visual kind of learning. Link to book
  3. The Healthy Pregnancy Book - has a lot of health tips and food diagrams on what you should and should not eat. You can also write down your journey throughout the book. link to book
  4. What To Expect When You're Expecting - the classic book most people get when expecting. A great book to read though. link to book
  5. What To Do When You're Having Two - a great book for those who are having twins. link to book
And for you expecting father's out there I also have a great book for you.
  1. The Expectant Father - has recipes, diagrams and so much more to help you get through this journey with the mother to be. It can be really confusing and difficult for the father to understand what the mother is going through, this book really helps break everything down and help you understand everything. link to book

I hope these book will help you out! Thanks for reading!

Working Twin Mom

Hey everyone! So I just started a new job and I am happy that I only have to work 3 days a week at the moment. I was really worried at first because I didn't want to work full time due to the fact that I really want to be there for my daughters when they hit there milestones, but was needing the money. I was finally able to find a job that I only have to work 3 days a week and only have to find someone to watch my daughters for one of the days because the other two days my husband will be able to watch the girls on the weekends when I have to work! I like being able to get out of the house and do my own thing for hours and get paid to do it, but I also love being able to come home and see the girls laugh and smile when they see me. I like being able to spend time with them. Let's be honest twins can really be overwhelming and can get really frustrating but when they are gone with Nana or I am not at home with them the silence is often a very odd thing to hear. All you mommas out there that have a job as well as kids share your stories and experience with a new momma!

Packing for a C-section! Mommy, Daddy and Babies!

Hey everyone! I had to have a C-section and thought I would share what I packed for the c-section day! Also with twins depending on where you deliver you may be able to stay with them while they are in the NICU, so pack extra just in case.

  1. Loose fitting clothes - You want to bring loose fitting clothes to change into once you are able to get up and around. You don't want anything irritating your incision.
  2. Lots of underwear - You will want to get into the shower and just chill and also due to just having a c-section you will be bleeding and may bleed through a few pairs so bring extra.
  3. Pads or Poise underwear - I absolutely LOVED the underwear the hospital gave me to wear while I was bleeding, if you are not sure if they will give you any buy some Poise underwear. It will be so much easier to change and much more comfortable than pads.
  4. Camera - to be able to document everything that is going on. You will fill your phone camera really quick.
  5. Chargers - chargers for everything that you are wanting to bring.
  6. Breast Pads and Lanolin - I personally like the Lansinoh brand but get whatever you like best.
  7. Bras - you may milk right through a few of them and it's always best to fill fresh.
  8. Bath time essentials - you will love to take your shower so make sure to bring shampoo, conditioner, anti-bacterial soap, and face wash.
  9. Slippers - much more comfortable than the hospital socks.
  10. Snacks - if there is something specific that you like make sure to bring it.
  11. Breast pump - I brought my own just so I would get used to it and know how to use it. Also wanted to know exactly which suction would be the most comfortable on my own pump.
  12. Pillow - I like my own pillow, it's the only way I can fall asleep.
  13. If you have a birth plan make sure to pack it also.
Daddy Pack bag
  1. Extra clothes -  not knowing how long mom and babies will stay make sure you pack enough. We lived close to the hospital it wasn't a huge problem if he didn't have enough clothes.
  2. Charges
  3. Tablet
  4. Phone
  5. Shower items
Baby Pack bag
  1. Diaper bag - we didn't need it but we brought it to pack everything we needed
  2. Sleepers - bring extras because they may get them dirty
  3. Welcome home outfits
  4. Car seats
  5. Blankets

Baby Items to Buy! My picks

Hey everyone! These are items I think anyone should get before baby(ies) come, although these are items I personally like and glad that I got!

  1. Medela Breast pump - I have the Medela double breast pump. I was able to get this pump through my insurance for free which was awesome considering it normally is around $350 or more.
  2. Fisher-Price 4-in-1 Rock 'n Glide Soother - My daughters love to sleep in these. Also because the rocker is detachable you can take it anywhere in the house and leave the base where they sleep.                                     Fisher Price 4-in-1 Rock 'n Glide
  3. Boppy Pillow - I have two and got them from a garage sale. I love them! I used them for feeding when they first came home since they were so small. I use them once in awhile when I am by myself to double feed. I also use them to do tummy time. Always do some shopping around and look for local consignment sales to by them for cheep.
  4. Munchkin Latch bottle - I absolutely love these bottles! My daughters drink very well with these and do not suck in much air so I don't have to burp them as much. So worth the money!
  5. Wipe warmer - brand really depends on what you prefer. I love my wipe warmer because the girls are not shocked by the freezing wipes during night time changes. Plus I'm sure it just feels better than a freezing wipe. You can also purchase a traveling wipe warmer also. I have one that I keep at the house and one that I can bring in the car that plugs into the cigarette lighter to keep it warm and can take it out and about with us.

  6. Munchkin Bottle Rack - I really like these because I can fit a lot of stuff in it, which is really important when you have a lot of bottles to wash.
  7. Swaddle Blankets - I REALLY love the Summer swaddle blankets because they are VERY soft. I also really like the Aden swaddle blankets. Both of these brands are great and the blankets are an amazing size, would be great covers for mothers that want to breastfeed.
  8. Halo Swaddlers - We got ours from the hospital, but I loved these when they first got home. We let them sleep in them till they grew out of them.
  9. Diapers - Stock up on LOTS of diapers. We started stocking up after the 3 month mark. We stocked up on newborn and size one. We got a few preemie due to them being twins and coming early. If you end up buying to much of one size just go in and trade it in for the size that you need.
  10. Diaper bag - I have two diaper bags, so when we go out my husband and I can take a baby, instead of only one of us doing it because we only have one diaper bag. I have the Columbia diaper backpack. I like the backpacks because they are easier to carry and this one has A LOT of room in it so I can fit everything I need in it.
  11. Car seats and Bases - Makes sure you shop around for the car seats I was able to get mine from cheaper stores. Look at local consignment stores to see if you can get a deal. Just make sure you pay attention to the expiration date.
  12. Double stroller - I currently have a Contour Double Stroller. It's easier to go shopping with and it goes well with most car seats. You to have to buy an additional car seat adapter because it only comes with one but you can buy that on amazon. When the girls get older I am planning on getting a jogging side by side stroller because my husband and I like to go on trails a lot, but at the moment this one fits all our needs.

If you have any additional things you think a mother should get please comment.Thank you for reading!

Exclusively Pumping

Hello everyone! When I found out I was pregnant I knew I wanted to breastfeed no matter what. I wanted to make sure my child had the absolute best. But when I found out that I was having twins I soon started to think that I wouldn't be able to breastfeed two babies at the same time, and if I needed help it wasn't like my husband could just let one of them latch onto him (the thought of that just makes me laugh). So I started to think of just exclusively pumping. I got a Medela double pump breast pump from my insurance for free (something everyone should look into!). The first few weeks of breast pumping were absolute hell but totally worth it. If you can get past your fist hump continuing is no problem. A week into pumping my left breast would constantly get a clogged duct, which hurts something fierce and takes forever to get unclogged. There was a indecent where it started out as a small block and then after a few hours my whole left breast became blocked. I was absolutely scared, thinking the worst, my left breast was going to dry up and I would only have my right breast to feed both girls and I knew that wasn't going to last long. My mother was over and helped me all day by applying warm packs and massaging my breast forcefully while I was breast pumping at a very high power (my nipples hurt so bad at the end of the day). After about 24 hours of constantly doing this my breast FINALLY unclogged all the way. I can't express how excited I was to get more than an ounce of milk out of my breast. After about a month of bottle feeding and only giving the girls breast milk the pediatrician wanted me to put a Vitamin D supplement into the milk so they got there daily dose of Vitamin D. The girls absolutely HATED the taste of the milk when I put it in, so after discussing it with my husband we decided to supplement the breast milk with formula. We started using Similac Advance non-GMO (blue can) but found that they would spit up a lot, so we switched to the Similac Sensitive (orange can) and they would drink it just fine. We figured since they were premature that their tummies could not handle the regular formula and needed it broken down more. They were now able to get extra vitamins and minerals plus the vitamin D the pediatrician wanted them to have with out the horrible taste (which in my option the formula smells horrible but they loved it). They grew like weeds after we choose to switch to supplementing with formula plus it seemed more filling for them so they lasted longer between feedings (which meant more sleep for mommy and daddy!).

Twinify?

Hello everyone! I was given a few questions from a friend on Facebook about having twins and I'm sure it's questions a lot of people have.

             1. Do you feel that you HAVE to dress them the same since they are twins?

I personally dislike when twins are dressed the exact same, it is my personal preference. There are times when I will see the same outfit but in different colors and I will buy it and have them wear it. Yeah it's the same outfit but it's also different at the same time. Most of the time though they are not dressed alike at all. They are two DIFFERENT babies, just because they are identical doesn't mean that they are in every way. Olivia is often calm and laid back has a very chill kind of attitude. Lilly is VERY smiley, wants to be held all the time and loves to watch the tv (mostly when daddy is playing x-box). I feel that up until they get old enough to be able to pick out what they want to wear, I shouldn't force them to dress alike. When they are older and want to dress alike that is completely fine with me, that is there choice.

             2. Do you feel that you have to buy double of everything, other than the normal things you                      have to have double of?

Well I'll tell you what we have double of. I have two car seats, two cradle thingers (yes I don't know the actual name of them), two boopies and two diaper bags. I don't have double of outfits due to not wanting to dress them the same. I don't have two cribs due to them still being small enough to sleep in the same one. Bows I only have one off unless I somehow bought two on accident. Basically I only have double on things that I have to have double on. When it comes to toys other than a tummy time play mat (which is to small to fit two babies on) they can share a single toy, that's what I personally think. Clothes and bows are shared between the two of them, although at this certain point in time outfits that are put on to go out have a certain baby they go to sometimes. Olivia when it comes to colors it put in purple, blue, green, basically any cool color. Lilly is put in warm colors like pinks, reds, oranges and yellows. Natural colors and shades of brown, white and black can be put on either child.

The Forbidden Word! Caesarean Section!

Hello everyone. I thought I would share some insight and shed some light on my own experience to hopefully ease the mind of first time Caesarean mothers to be.That one word is the the fear of most moms. Although it is now becoming more popular as the chosen way to have babies. When you are having twins it is not often that you are able to have a vaginal birth due to the positioning of the babies. I originally wanted a vaginal birth, but scheduled a c-section just in case the girls did not want to cooperate with me. Well needless to say they did not. Baby A (Olivia) was head down but sat in front of my cervix, so I was contracting but she was not sitting on my cervix to make me dilate. Baby B (Lilly) was breech, so going vaginally could potentially be very dangerous. So into surgery I went. My  c-section was at 8:10 am but I had to arrive to the Labor and Delivery 2 hours early due to monitory and needing to take antibiotics before the surgery. The time finally came and I walked into the surgery room, I was seriously scared out of my mind! This was my first pregnancy and I was about to have a major surgery in my option. They sat me on the T-shaped table while preparing everything around me. They told me after they had me completely prepared for surgery the would go get my husband. I sat on the table and had the surgery nurse standing in front of me, thankfully she had a hold of me when they stuck the needle in my back to numb the area because I would have moved. She helped keep me grounded and told me to keep breathing. Only seconds later I a lot of pressure mid back area where they were doing the spinal block. They choose not do do a epidural due to the surgery not being that long. The spinal block would only last long enough for them to get the girls out, sew me up and get me to recovery. It was a very odd feeling to have your ass become numb then it travel down to your toes. I could only describe the feeling as my lower half of my body had gone to sleep but I never got that tingly needle feeling you get when your the part of your body that went to sleep began to wake back up. I was cold the whole time due to them needing to keep the room cold so I was a bit shaky, it was also due to the drugs they gave me for the spinal block. My husband watched they whole thing as the pulled they girls out of my body. There was A LOT of pressure as the tried to push them out of the small opening they made in my lower abdomen to get them out. There were a few times I couldn't breath so well because they were so swashed in me that they had to pull Olivia up and out of my pelvis which meant she went into my lung area. I have to say the whole thing went by really quick, though the whole process took about an hour and a half. I was able to feel my right toes before they even finished sewing me up which started to worry me a bit but they told me it would take awhile before I would even feel anything in my abdominal area. I was sent into recovery and recovered very well. They wanted me to start walking a little after 6 hours, I was able to stand and walk a short distance to the wheelchair to go visit my girls in the NICU. At the 20 hour mark they took the bladder catheter out since I was doing so well. I must warn you the first time you urinate it WILL hurt, but it gets easier. Bring a pillow to use as a caution so when you laugh, cough or sneeze you can press it against you so it won't hurt so bad. After 24 hours I was finally off fluids. Ladies make sure you take stool softeners, you will need all the help you can get to make your first bowel movement as easy as possible because your abdominal muscles are non-existent so it will be really hard to push and it will really hurt. Make sure you do your research about c-sections and get advise from other moms. I looked on Pintrest a lot for stories and advice which really helped me through my recovery. I have attached some sites below that really helped me with info. Thanks for reading!
